The repeatable sources — what you get, and how often
These are the ones that keep paying. If you only do the first row, you are already collecting more Primogems per month than every one-off source on this page combined.
| Source | Primogems | Resets | Worth it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily Commissions — all four, then Katheryne | 60 per day 10 each, plus 20 for the set |
Daily | Yes. This is the backbone — roughly 1,800 a month for about ten minutes a day. |
| Imaginarium Theater — season medals | up to 1,000 | 1st of each month | Yes — the largest single monthly payout, and it does not depend on your Abyss teams. |
| Spiral Abyss — Floors 9 to 12 | up to 800 | 16th of each month | Yes if your teams can clear it. 3 and 6 stars on a floor pay 50, 9 stars pays 100. |
| HoYoLAB community daily check-in | 60 per month cycle | Monthly | Yes. It is a web check-in, not something you do in the game — a few seconds a day. |
| Promotional codes | Varies — no fixed figure published | Irregular, usually tied to a version | Yes, but they die fast. We keep a dated list and re-check it daily. |
| Version events | Varies — no fixed figure published | Per version | Yes. Usually the largest single chunk of a version, but you have to actually play the event. |
| Occasional mail — maintenance compensation, milestone rewards | Varies — no fixed figure published | Irregular | Nothing to do — it arrives automatically. Just claim it from Mail before it expires. |
The figures in the first four rows come from the community wiki's Primogem page, which is the only place we found that states the per-source amounts rather than a monthly total. Where it publishes no figure, we say so rather than invent one.
These are not free — do not count them
They appear on almost every “free Primogems” page, and they are all paid. They are listed here only so you can recognise them and subtract them from any total you are quoted.
| Source | Primogems | What it actually costs |
|---|---|---|
| Blessing of the Welkin Moon | 2,700 over 30 days, plus 300 Genesis Crystals | A monthly purchase. It is the best value in the game, but it is not free. |
| Battle Pass | 680 over roughly 42 days | A paid pass. The free track exists but pays far less. |
| PlayStation Plus | 160 over roughly 42 days | A subscription you would have to be paying for anyway. |
| Xbox Game Pass | 80 over roughly 42 days, plus one Intertwined Fate | A subscription perk. Worth claiming if you already have it — not worth buying for. |
One-off sources — large totals, but you only get them once
These are where the big lifetime numbers come from. They are real, but they are not income: once you have cleared the map and earned the achievements, that well is dry.
| Source | Total | How it pays | Reachable? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Achievements | 14,015 | Per achievement completed | Realistically no — the total assumes every achievement in the game, including ones added over years. |
| Spiral Abyss Floors 1–8 (Star's Bounty) | 2,400 | 100 every 3 stars | Yes, and it does not reset — clear them once and keep the Primogems. |
| Imaginarium Theater Debut Performance | 1,800 | First-time clears of Acts 1–10 and Arcanum 1 and 2 | Yes, over time. |
| Discovering Teleport Waypoints and Statues of the Seven | 1,800 | Per waypoint and statue unlocked | Yes, but only as far as you explore. |
| Levelling up Statues of the Seven | 1,800 | Per statue level, using Oculi you collect | Yes, tied to exploration. |
| Adventurer Handbook | 900 | Experience rewards in the handbook | Yes — most players finish this early without noticing. |
| Serenitea Pot Trust Rank | 600 | Per Trust Rank level | Yes, but it takes weeks of crafting. |
| Genius Invokation TCG — Player Level | 600 | Per player level | Yes, if you play the card game. |
| Genius Invokation TCG — Player's Manual | 240 | Manual rewards | Yes, alongside the player level track. |
Sources with no published figure
These pay, but nobody publishes a reliable per-source number for them, so we will not guess:
- Chests — pay 0, 2, 5, 10, 20, 40 or 80 each, depending on the chest's quality and where it is. The range is wide enough that any “per chest” average you see quoted is someone's guess.
- Archon Quests, Story Quests, Hangout Events and World Quests — all pay, none has a stated per-quest amount.
- Completing one-time Domains — pays, no published amount.
- Unlocking tutorials — pays 1 or 2 each, depending on the tutorial.
- Serenitea Pot Gift Sets — 40 per owned character, excluding the Traveler. Counts as one-off because each character's set can only be given once.
- Events, promotional codes and occasional mail — all pay, none has a fixed figure, because the amounts change every version.
A routine that actually adds up
The difference between a player who collects Primogems and one who does not is not effort, it is whether the repeatable rows happen on a schedule. Four things, in this order:
- Every day: the four Daily Commissions, then talk to Katheryne for the completion bonus. 60 Primogems. This one habit is worth more per month than every one-off source combined.
- Every day, ten seconds: the HoYoLAB web check-in. It is separate from the game and easy to forget for weeks at a time.
- Twice a month, on fixed dates: the 1st for Imaginarium Theater, the 16th for Spiral Abyss Floors 9–12. Put them in a calendar — these two are the biggest single payouts on the page and they are the easiest to let lapse.
- Whenever a version drops: claim your mail, and check the code list. Version compensation arrives by mail automatically, and the codes from the Special Program expire within days.
Why your real total is lower than the big numbers
If you add up this page you get a number in the tens of thousands, and then your own total looks wrong. It is not. Three reasons:
- The one-off totals assume completion. 14,015 from achievements assumes every achievement in the game. 1,800 from waypoints assumes you have explored essentially the whole map. Those are ceilings, not expectations.
- The repeatable totals assume you never skip a day. 1,800 a month from Commissions is 30 days of doing them. Miss a third of them and the number drops by a third.
- Nothing here counts the pity system. Primogems convert into Fates, and Fates convert into pulls. How far a Primogem total actually gets you depends on where your pity counter sits, which is a separate calculation.
The honest summary: the repeatable table is your income, the one-off table is your savings, and the paid table is neither. If a page mixes all three into one headline number, that number does not mean anything.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get free Primogems in Genshin Impact?
Four things, repeatable: the four Daily Commissions plus the Katheryne completion bonus for 60 a day, Imaginarium Theater on the 1st of each month for up to 1,000, Spiral Abyss Floors 9–12 on the 16th for up to 800, and the HoYoLAB web check-in for 60 a month. Everything else is either one-off or paid.
How many Primogems do Daily Commissions give?
60 per day. Each of the four commissions pays 10, and completing all four and speaking to Katheryne pays an additional 20. Over a full 30 days that is 1,800 — more than any one-off source on this page.
What is the fastest way to get Primogems?
Codes, if a live one exists — they take a minute and pay instantly. After that, Daily Commissions are the best return on time. The one-off exploration sources look bigger but are measured in hours per Primogem.
Is Welkin Moon free?
No. It is the best value purchase in the game, giving 2,700 Primogems and 300 Genesis Crystals over 30 days, but it costs money and it does not belong in a list of free sources.
How many Primogems can I get in a month for free?
It depends how much of the repeatable content you actually clear, so any single figure is misleading. The floor is around 1,860 if you only do Commissions and the HoYoLAB check-in. Add Imaginarium Theater and Spiral Abyss and you are looking at roughly 3,600, before events and codes.
Do Primogems expire?
The Primogems themselves do not. The mail that delivers them does — the default window is 30 days — so a code or a compensation reward can be lost by not opening your Mail.
Why does the achievement total look so much higher than what I have?
Because it counts every achievement in the game, including ones added across years of versions, and many of them are tied to content most players never finish. Treat it as a ceiling rather than a target.
Can I convert Genesis Crystals into Primogems?
Yes, one way. Genesis Crystals convert into Primogems, but Primogems do not convert back, so the conversion is permanent.
